For our return to the Rockies, we invite you to join us in considering "Tolkien and the Green: The Environment of Middle Earth".

Tolkien was a writer who wove environmental consciousness into the fabric of his narratives, making them resonate with modern ecological concerns. At Mountain Moot, we invite presenters and attendees alike to come explore the rich ecological themes that permeate J.R.R. Tolkien's works, highlighting his deep connection to nature and his critique of industrialization. Our theme offers you the opportunity to examine how Tolkien's landscapes—ranging from the idyllic, green hills of the Shire to the decaying barrenness of Mordor—serve as reflections of the moral and philosophical conflicts within his stories. At Mountain Moot, we will explore how nature in Middle-earth is not just a backdrop, but an active force, influencing the characters and the course of events.
