This eight-session discussion course reads TJ Klune's cosy fantasy novel closely and sequentially, tracking how a story about a bureaucrat sent to inspect a magical orphanage builds a sustained argument about prejudice, institutional violence, and chosen family.

Each session pairs a short close reading with questions that move from the immediate text toward the novel's larger throughlines: the language of "othering" and how it shifts as Linus's vocabulary changes, the contrast between DICOMY's polite bureaucratic prejudice and the village's open hostility, and the slow, cumulative process by which trust and affection are built through ordinary domestic scenes rather than a single dramatic turn.
