Young Quills are elementary age writers discovering the joy of storytelling at a developmentally appropriate stage. We do oral and written storytelling to explore ideas, express daydreams, and spark our imaginations. We meet for one hour to discuss and read aloud our work, play writing games, and encourage each other's stories. We do some writing time and a lot of community building.

Note: A half-hour follow up video of prompts and writing tips will be sent later in the week for watching on the family's own schedule. There is no writing required outside the class, but many young writers like to extend their stories in their free time.

Welcome to our Old English club! We’re currently looking for middle school and high school students who are interested in learning Old English - the language of the Anglo-Saxon tribes that invaded the British Isles in the 5th, 6th and 7th centuries. If you’re interested in learning the language of Beowulf, in reading and solving riddles, or in the English language in general, this club was meant for you!

For beginning students, this module offers a great opportunity to get your feet wet learning the basics of Old English and practicing your reading and translation skills. Through grammar instruction and some modeling by our instructor and intermediate students, you’ll master the basics of Old English in no time.

For advanced learners, this module offers a golden opportunity to continue learning Old English literature and culture with some easy-to-read authentic texts.
