Are you working on, or have an idea for, a children’s novel? Did you know there are different categories of children’s fiction determined by publishers, educators, and librarians? We’ll explore chapter books (ages 7-10) middle-grade fiction (ages 8-12), and tween fiction (ages 10 and up). Though ages can overlap, there are key differences for each format whether your story is fantasy, contemporary, or historical. Once your idea or work-in-progress is situated in a category that works best, you’ll proceed to develop characters, setting, plot, and be able to draft that all-important first chapter.
