Brewer; addicted to context
Joshua's lifelong passion has been devoted to discovering context—to filling in all the empty spaces surrounding events, individuals, societies, and streams of thought. His first career led into (and out of) Christianity by way of the church's history, while his second has continually returned to those more liquid spirits that have vivified humans since before we ceased our wanderings.

After completing bachelor's work in music and theology in 2009, Joshua began working with college students in on-campus ministries, first in central Indiana, and later, near Kansas City, Missouri. After leaving ministry, Joshua moved with his wife, Mikala, and their three children to southern Indiana, for her to complete studies in social work. These and many other stories are covered in his book, Tracking Desire: A Memoir(ish) Walk Through Faith, Failure, and Finding God Under My Feet(2021).

As Mikala pursued her career in school social work, Joshua began investing more energy into his love of both the product and stories of alcohol. The first homebrew he ever completed was a simple honey mead, its status as humanity's oldest intentional alcoholic beverage being the main attraction. Soon, he was pursuing every opportunity to work within this industry: as an assistant brewer, taproom manager, tour guide, and bartender. . . . and always, as a homebrewer.

Following a brief foray into public education and completing a Masters in Teaching, Joshua returned to the industry as an assistant brewer, and now works in packaging for one of the largest wineries in America.
