Dr. Nakhat Fatima

By profession, Nakhat is a Computer Science Instructor with a doctorate in Computational linguistics. She loves languages, with fluency in English and Urdu and varied skills in Chinese, Punjabi, Saraiki etc. She is especially fascinated with sounds. Literature is an escape and passion for her.

Born in Pakistan into a literary family, Urdu was always her main focus. Her father's language deeply impacted her own and she got a love for languages and pronunciation intricacies from him. She went on to study Computer Science, but linguistics soon crept in, leading her to study speech and language processing starting in her undergraduate studies, continuing through research, and ultimately culminating in a PhD.

Nakhat has taught courses in Algorithm Analysis, Data Structures, and Compiler Construction, among others. A naturalized Canadian, she now lives in the United States with her husband—who accompanies her to Moots and Smials—and their two children, who bring laughter (and the occasional frown) to her life every day.
