In this capsule, Pilar and Sparrow will talk about their candidate module Signum Classics: Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales for Creative Writers and the Signum Press book (why this collection is like that, why for writers, etc.). Then, they will read a fragment of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale and discuss his unique narrative style. We will then discuss several themes: sentient vegetables, the moral values of each pea, poverty and illness, healing through the humblest means, and how Hans Christian Andersen differs from typical fairy tale writers. We will explore his ability to offer a new perspective on everyday things, inviting the audience to examine small things with a magnifying glass rather than grand ones, and to look with their hearts at humility, modesty, patience, and grace. After the discussion, we will brainstorm writing ideas via the zoom chat.
