Shawn Gaffney concept:
In this class we choose one book that is frequently cited as an important read for the SATs and will read it carefully and slowly. The setting is relaxed and welcoming so students can gain familiarity with vocabulary, differences in language, and prepare themselves for thoughtful reading. This class is aimed at high school students who are preparing for college but is open to anyone who wants to read some of the traditional classics or some more modern works of fiction. It is especially helpful for students whose first language is not English if they are looking for opportunities to read and discuss.
